Imagine, if you will, being one of the first men to pull back the curtain of reality. Giordano Bruno imagined the universe as it really is.

Travel back to the 1500s. Humanity thought that the sky was the edge of the universe. That the stars were literally dots suspended above them, as were the planets that moved at different speeds. If they could only travel a few kilometres upwards, they could pluck them out of the sky and keep them as their own.

Bruno, instead imagined they were spread out over an unthinkable distance. It was an inconceivable concept for the time and he was burned at the stake for his rejection of the status quo.

He was of course, correct.

Put yourself in his shoes and think of that revelation he would have had. His reality bursting open to endless possibilities. Can you imagine how terrifying and exciting that would be to experience one of the greatest epiphanies ever? He discovered that everybody’s understanding of reality was astoundingly wrong.

He pulled back the curtain.

I’ve had several of these epiphanies in my life. Some big, some small. Some gradual, some instant. Probably not quite as revealing as Bruno’s, but they’ve had lasting effects on my life either way. I’ve realised reality is not what it seems. This is not the end, it is the beginning. There is still so much more I am going to learn over the course of my life. I want to share this with you.

I want to share what I have learnt on the other side of the curtain and continue to write about what I find as I move forward into the unknown. It’s scary, bright and revealing. But most importantly, it’s real. I’ll never be able to experience reality as it truly is, but I’d like to have the most accurate representation as I can. Wouldn’t you?
